Anyone here collect both sports and TCG?
Posted by Emily Torres on July 28, 2025 at 3:47 pmI’ve noticed a lot of crossover lately (Marvel, Disney, etc.). Curious how many of you do both? Does it change how you buy/sell?”

I’m mainly sports, but I’ve dabbled in Marvel a little — picked up a couple Spider-Man PMGs just because they look sick. Doesn’t really change how I buy/sell though… I treat them more like PC pieces than flips.
But, yeah, I think there’s definitely a lot of crossover. 🤷♂️

That’s kind of what I figured.
I’ve seen a lot of Pokémon folks jumping into Marvel/Disney lately just because the art is SO GOOD. Kinda cool seeing different parts of the hobby come together.
I’m also digging a lot of the art cards I’m seeing people create these days…

I’m not super committed to anyone type of collecting…it’s more about what interests me in the moment. I have vintage baseball, “modern” childhood favorites in various sports, and even a vintage card of Alexandre Dumas (he wrote The Count of Monte Cristo) because it’s just fun to me. Haha!
I DO think there’s a lot of crossover, though. Collectors tend to collect…much to my wife’s frustration!

There is a lot of crossover in the hobby when it comes to collecting different genres and items. I for one, started with sports and also got heavy into Pokémon. I also have some Marvel (Punisher and Daredevil) and Disney in my PC.

I have a good bit of Pokemon but I mainly collect sports. I feel that most people that are truly in the hobby for the love of it collect anything that has nostalgia for them… bcs I’m guilty of buying a couple of the space jam packs at target when I saw them 😂😂 and have even been tempted to grab a SpongeBob box from my local card shop

bro i just bought some of the space jam packs. im hunting for that mj auto hahah not really but man its the kid in me. one of my fav movies. might seem cheesy now but its what alot of us grew up with

Fr tho it’s nice to hear ppl are still in it fo the fun and nostalgia not just scalping for quick bucks and screwing ppl over in the process 🤦♂️
-
Never.. Making money is good but as a seller who trys to remember to also know he is a consumer/buyer too that you dont want to scalp people. little over value doesnt hurt but when you are just straight up taken advantage of someone thats just dirty.

Yeah form the looks of it the only thing that changes from packs is the possible different insert cards. the base cards seem to be all the same. So there is at least a insert card of each one that you could pull and then that possible auto of MJ

I started with baseball as a kid and I’m just now getting back into it and I’ve pretty much started dabbling In a lot of areas. Baseball, football, basketball, boxing (love Mike Tysons especially 1/1s), pokemon, and have started looking into one piece as well. It was a little overwhelming at first because A LOT has changed since I was a kid and there was and still is a lot to learn lol.

Marvel was my first love! 1994 Marvel Masterpieces, 94 and 95 Flair, and 95 Fleer Ultra Xmen. Moved into baseball as I got older, then pokemon in the late 90’s because I wanted to collect something with my little brother. Now I have 5 kids and the only thing they will show any interest in is Pokémon, so that’s all I’m really into anymore.
Still wish I could walk into Walmart and pick up a decent pack of Marvel cards for old time’s sake.

I was huge into sports cards when I was younger. Just got back into the hobby about 3 years ago now and have really started to notice the high art that’s everywhere now. Been dabbling in some CCG that interests me, like Wonders of the First and Neuroscape, and then a little marvel or DC every now and again for variety.
I find some of it is nostalgia (Superman) and some is for collecting, and some is for the art. Lots of crossover in all the areas from that perspective.

I’ve been only sports since I got back into collecting in 2022 but in the last few weeks the Pokemon bug has bitten. A young friend collects them and was showing me his collection so I started looking at them online and ordered a few indivudual ones on eBay. And now I’ve ordered my first retail packs.
For me it’s fun to learn something new. And it’s fun to see the simliarities to collecting sports cards. Pokemon appeals to me for the art and big variety of characters.

Yes, I have massive inventory in both sports and TCG. Im one of very view who carry inventory of just about anything. It definitely helps being a vendor. Seems the more variety and choices the more sales I get. So now I appeal to everyone in the family. The kids that love pokemon, the dad who loves sports, and the mom’s who love Disney or Pixar. I have something for everyone!

born in 91 so of coarse POKEMON is my thang! lol but i do have a decent sized sport collection as well… 🤓

Definitely do both which is not a good addiction lol. Pokemon, Dodgers, some NBA, and One Piece.

I bought into a couple bundles and the guy had some Japanese Pokemon cards in there. I also had some Disney and I’m working on completing a WWE set.

Football, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Disney, Marvel and Pokemon for me

Sports is where I started with cards but I’m a nerd at heart. Love ripping and collecting Star Wars and Marvel as well
