• Is the hobby going to price out the low-end collectors?

How many of you remember when a box of 36 wax packs cost $40?? Or packs were less than $4.00? It seems like every year the prices get steeper and steeper for a pack or a box of cards which pushes up the prices for breaks and at some point, the low-end collectors, those that don’t have thousands of $$$ to spend, can never get the opportunity to get lucky in opening a box and finding a 1/1 or a huge auto or something. It’s a little sad if you ask me. And I understand the cards are much nicer than they were back in the 90’s but when a pack of 4 cards costs $8.00….who wants to put out that much money for only 4 cards?

I agree with you. Even the “cheap” product is no longer cheap. I really dont rip anything anymore because I cant justify it. I’d rather just buy the cards I want. Also, I think I heard the 2025 Topps Chrome basketball blasters are $50 retail. So crazy, blasters were $20 a few years ago.

Yes. I had a childhood birthday where I most likely received 36 packs of 1988 Topps baseball for probably around that price. I cannot imagine my father buying me a $650 Hobby box of Topps Chrome Basketball even if it actually cost around $100-$200 in 1990’s dollars adjusted for inflation.

I dont think the hobby will out price the low end collectors. We will have to get more strategic and picky. There is still value in low end. Low end is more of the waiting and small sales game then those big hits with a big payout all at once.
