Best Card Lore?
I think I’ve officially reached the point where I’m more interested in the story behind a card than the price tag.
One of my favorite examples happened at a Star Wars convention. A friend of mine pulled a 1/1 Sebulba card, which was already an awesome pull. But then we realized the guy who voiced Sebulba was literally standing about 20 feet away from us.
So naturally, we had to go see if we could get him to come over. 😂 He ended up coming over, hanging out with us for a bit, and signing the 1/1.
That card might not be the most valuable card in his collection, but I don’t think you could put a price on that experience. The fact that the character’s voice actor was standing right there when the card was pulled made it something we’ll probably never forget.
That’s what I love about this hobby. Sometimes the cardboard is just the excuse for the story.
What’s the card in your collection that has the BEST story behind it? Not necessarily your most expensive card — I want the card with the lore.

What a great story! I love coincidences like that. Value isn’t always (or really to me even usually) monetary. I’m going to have to ponder a bit. Surely I do have a card that came to me in an interessting way. One from a while back. But if not a story is in process….

Thats why my ultimate pc card is a signed card in pen from the 90s and the player did okay but eventually due to injurys and such didnt have a better season after rookie year. so card is only worth a few bucks and i paid more grading it then value of card but its the first auto i ever had of a card and i got it done personally
I for sure fill cards with stories are worth more then cards with 1.5 million price tags.

100% agree. That’s the kind of card that puts the “collecting” in collecting.
A card being worth $5 on the market doesn’t make the memory behind it worth $5. You got that autograph yourself, it was your first one, and now you have that moment preserved in your PC forever. I’d take that over a million-dollar card that I have no personal connection to any day.
That’s also why I think the hobby is so cool. Two people can look at the exact same card and see completely different values. One person sees a $5 card, the other sees a piece of their own history.
The market can tell you what a card is worth. It can’t tell you what it means to you.
