I have a friend who thinks breaks are ruining the card collecting hobby by pricing out kids and collectors who don’t want to spend big bucks. I think they are a good way to increase chances for a big hit.

At the first of the year I starting buying into breaks now and then. I usually spend about the same amount I would on a blaster.

My friend also thinks there are a lot of breakers who are dishonest, but I did a lot of research first and went with a big long-time breaking company. In my very first break I got a box hit that funded getting some cards graded. And I’ve gotten other cards that I will sell to my local hobby shop so I can buy cards I want from them.

What do y’all think? Do you agree with my friend who says breaks are evil and pricing out too many people?

So there are good breakers and very bad breakers. Theres possibly more dishonest ones then good ones. Been alot of them crashing out over cards selling for low and ultimately there own fault when you run auctions at 1 to start and not many are bidding and then they slam the person bidding by saying to set max pre bid like that is going to have the item sell for higher.

I have bought into some breaks and no hits but it is what it is. I typically do singles or a friend who does more like mystery bullets where you win a card and if theres a sticker on the back its usually tied to something else on the screen that is yours also. From slabs to other hits..

My opinon though not all breakers are bad and buying into them isnt totally bad. But it is just like playing the lottery. Though usually even if you get skunked in a brake they usually send you some crappy base card or cards which is more then if you dont hit any numbers in the lottery.

That’s exactly my take about breaks. I see it as playing the lottery and at least am getting some cards. And when I play the lottery and don’t win I get nothing. And when I buy into a break of a favorite team I’m getting cards I’d buy anyway where if I buy boxes I get more base cards for players I don’t really care about than cards I want to collect. I really do think when I buy into random team breaks it’s a lottery ticket

I think breaks are still better than ripping wax. Cost of entry can be a lot lower and you still get a chance at a big hit. Plus, you can pick the teams you PC so you will always be getting players you like.

That’s how I’m looking at it. Even in when I go for a random team I’ve gotten some cards I can sell to my local hobby shop, get something I want, and break even (or almost)

Being new to breaks, I dont mind them. Like with everything else you have those who do breaks and try to drive up the price because of a certain team but you know that going in. Its essentially a lottery and you know what your getting.

That’s how I see them. I enjoy buying in and watching the breaks
