• Slabs, mags, toploaders, and binders… what is your mix?

I’ll start the discussion by saying I shift back and forth a little bit… but curious how folks choose between the different protection/storage/display options.

When my son and I got a bit more serious about our collection and collecting a couple of years ago, everything got sleeved and went in binders. Expanding, some graded, some slabs, but just a couple of things on stands. More recently, with more valuable cards, got back to putting more in mags and even more in toploaders. Those then putting in hard sided case – I figure with more, will sell more of them (or should) so having them better protected, but also easier to access and be ready to mail, toploaders and slabs seem to be the way to go.

    Thoughts?

I used to waste a LOT of time double-sleeving nicer cards before bindering before finally realizing that they either aren’t going to move that much, or if I am that worried, topload and mag them.

Of course, my order of zion mags and maglite just arrived, so moving some of my cards to those haha. I had stopped using mags for a bit because the first box of those I bought was really cheap. I swear half of them came pre-scratched, but magnets randomly flipped, so a pain to use. Getting some of the zions, yea those are nice!

I’m very much like you. I prefer binders because I can flip through and look at my cards and asked about binders for slabs in a post but haven’t gotten replies. My more valuable cards are in mags or or slabs in cases. I’d love a way to flip through and look at them too. Getting out a big case isn’t as easy as pulling out a binder.

I don’t like the clip-in binders like from school and use these instead. I have a giant zip one with all cards in toploaders but it’s SO heavy. It does let me flip through and look at cards, though. So far I have not found what I’d consider to be the ideal storage/display situation for me.

That one does look pretty nice – I picked up the prezza one a while back and have some in it, but such a pain to get in and out of pockets like that, have been migrating to slab cases.
