The ODDEST eBay card purchase packaging I’ve ever gotten
Posted by KJXploR on April 16, 2026 at 12:28 pmHave you ever seen a top loader or packaging like this??
I ordered this Allen & Ginter relic card on eBay. Nothing expensive. The way it arrived has me baffled. I took it to my hobby shop and asked them what they thought. But I also want to see what y’all think. This card arrived in a regular envelope in this weird top loader.
I’ve never seen this color top loader before. It looks much like camera film used to look. The card seems to be stained in a coffee color.
The reason I’m asking your opinion is because Allen & Ginter has that antique look and I wondered if they had done something like this as part of a promotion. I don’t find anything like that online though.
The penny sleeve and the team bag are wrinkled almost like shrink wrap.

Thats very strange. May have just been a trash penny sleeve

WHERE do you even get a top loader like this?? It looks like camera film. But it’s thicker

Yeah thats a new one for sure. Could reach out to the seller and ask where they got it cause now I’m curious

what it looks like to me is there sleeve and toploaders have been exposed to extreme heat and got that warped effect.
-
I do think that’s right. And it came from Vegas, so it might well have been in extreme heat. But I’ve gotten quite a few cards that have come from Vegas and never had this effect. Lately I’ve had weird things happen with cards in the mail. More than the last few years put together. But the dark top loader I can’t figure out at all. Have you ever seen one like that??

its possible they left there supplies in extreme heat and still used them.. whos to say. i guess as long as the card doesnt look to be effected? did you reach out to the seller to show how the card arrived?
-
I haven’t reached out yet but I will. I was wondering if there was something about the loader that was connected with Allen & Ginter. But after talking with my hobby shop guy and y’all here I don’t think believe that

no its not. unless you get a allen and ginter certain card from topps themself which ive seen some come in a fancy looking loader and such then no what you got sent is for sure messed up sleeve and toploader.

Thanks, it’s very helpful to have input from folks who know a lot about cards and sets and how cards are usually packaged

I did contact the seller and he said he sent the card in a CLEAR top loader!
-
hmm interesting.. well if the card isnt damaged i would have it in a new one. guess it went through some extreme heat. cause thats the only way that loader and penny sleeve would have that happen in my opinion.
-
It’s not a valuable card, just something for my PC low-end so it’s fine. It came from Vegas so extreme heat fits. But now I want to experiment to see if I can get a top loader to change colors like that! It doesn’t make sense to me at all. I’m going to check with my super sciency young friend and see what he thinks.

i know top loaders over time can change yellowey. but again i feel if left near light alot. Ive got a card thats in a top loader thats yellowish but ive had that since i was a kid. so over 30 years and im 45 now

its possible. i dont think they sold top loaders like that brand new back in the day. so my guess would be left near sun to much. in extreme heat and so forth. expecially any warping. but if the seller says they sent it in a brand new top loader all you can do is go by that and had to have happened in transit. Though i have had many cards come from the other coast and never had that
-
Yeah part of me is skeptical but the other part has NEVER seen a top loader like this and can’t find one online
-
fair and the yellowing is aging and being near sun light to much. most clear plastics start yellowing over time from light and heat. but the warp look that for sure was extreme heat
