Not that I got sucked into it but Pokemon lol told myself I wouldnt do it but then the kids and wife started looking at then and now we are trying to go after our favorites

Haha, that’s honestly how it gets you. I told myself I wasn’t getting into Pokemon either, and then the kids start looking at cards, the wife gets interested, and suddenly we’re all hunting down our favorite characters. Honestly, I think that makes it even better. It’s one thing to collect something yourself, but having something the whole family can enjoy and chase together is pretty awesome.And now I’m curious… who are everybody’s favorite Pokemon? That could get expensive REAL quick. 🤣 🤣<

Mine is Psyduck, Wifes is Dragonair, daughters is sylveon and my boys are tyrantrum, volteon and my youngest is mew lol

We like the classics too lol. My kiddo loves Pikachu and Mew, My wife loves Eevee. And I’m somewhere with Charizard, Blastoise and MewTwo

Honestly, the whole damn thing! lol. I love me a good rabbit hole. I’ve gone down most of them and had a blast the entire time. The only one that I went into for a brief period was buying into too many breaks. I quickly pulled myself out of it and started getting a bit more surgical in my collecting. the other which I have successfully avoided is the whole WhatNot live buying. Nothing against those who do, but I know my personality, and I’d be buried in debt if I didn’t avoid it all together.

Yeah, I completely get that. The biggest thing is knowing which parts of the hobby you can enjoy without letting them take over.<div>I went through a phase of getting into too many breaks myself and eventually realized I’m happier being more surgical with what I collect. But that’s the beauty of the hobby — some people love chasing singles, some love ripping, some love breaks, and some love all of it.</div>

I’m with the others. Started with sports and was NOT interested in Pokemon. Until a friend started explaining his collection. And the next thing I knew I was getting a Pokemon here and there. And there and here. And more and more. I had no idea there was such cool artwork!

And I’ve avoided Whatnot just because I don’t trust myself to show restraint. So avoidance IS my restraint!

Haha, that’s exactly how Pokemon gets you. 😂 It starts with “I’ll grab one because I like the artwork,” and suddenly you’re looking at cards for Pokemon you didn’t even know existed. And I completely understand the Whatnot avoidance. Sometimes the most effective form of self-control is simply not putting yourself in the situation to begin with. Lol I’m the same way with certain parts of the hobby — I know myself well enough to know when “I’ll just look” is a dangerous sentence. The artwork really is what surprised me most with Pokemon, though. There are some cards that I’d want even if I knew absolutely nothing about the Pokemon just because the card itself looks incredible.

My last few Pokemon purchases are solely for the art. And I’ve just found out that the details in the background can tell stories, too. I got some cards just so I can show a friend and get him to fill in the backstories I’m missing. He grew up with Pokemon so knows all of the characters and their stories. There are all kinds of interesting details I had NO idea about. But I love that the illustrators include them

They make it so difficult lol Like some people at work are like “I don’t get the Pokemon thing” but if you just look at the art these are mini works of art.
