• How much does pop count matter?

How much do you consider population count in deciding which of your cards to have graded?

For some of my cards what I think is a high pop count tells me not to spend the grading money. I’m wondering how some of you decide.

I’m looking at PSA pop count and am seeing big differences among cards I have

I had not given population count any consideration. But then again haven’t submitted through PSA yet. I feel like if the count is high there isn’t as much of a value on the card. I do have a PSA 10 that I bought that when I scanned the barcode out of curiosity told me was the only one so that was pretty cool.

I’m trying to apply this a little to the ones I’m getting graded on Degree. I’m even considering having Degree grade a couple of the same cards I have off with PSA right now. Though they can’t be exactly the same card. One might be better in some way. But both came together new right out of the package

That would be a pretty interesting thing to compare.

To me it really depends on what the card is. For example, if its a lower end card that is a pop 1, I don’t think it matters much because its likely that no one has bothered grading it. I also think gem rate matters to which is the population difference between PSA 10s and all other grades.

What the difference between a 10 and a gem mint 10? I don’t think I can tell a whole lot myself by looking. Or maybe I can learn?? I consulted with my local hobby shop about the cards I sent off to PSA through the shop but would like to know more of what to look for myself. Thanks for your input

What do you mean by the difference from a 10 and a gem mint 10? For PSA, they are the same. BGS has a pristine 10 and a Black Label 10.

I thought I’d read there was a difference, but last night realized they’re the same. I don’t know what confused me. But your reply tells me I was indeed confused. Basically 10 means perfect.

So I think it depends on the card on how much pop matters. i mean one of the most graded cards is the mj card and it still goes for insane value. I feel with so many of the same cards being graded alot the pop part doesnt seem to affect the value a whole lot unless im just not seeing the stats.

I’m trying to figure out which of my cards I want to have graded. And why. If I look at value a PSA 10 sure helps. But you’re not assured of getting that. Right now I’m trying to decide which 5 cards to send to Degree in their introductory offer. I’m not sure I like the black they use for their slabs, so that matters. I think I’ve may have figured out which 5 last night but need to look again and see if I still think that

So there slabs are clear the black is the team bag they use. The ones i shared pics of where still in the taam bags.. And your correct there’s no guarantee to get a 10 really. I will say if this is for your pc i would go with what you like the look of.. Degree is nice. Theres another one im gonna send cards to and thats Tag.. They actually laser engrave the info instead of a label.
