Is it okay to boo your own team?
Posted by kyberforged on September 25, 2026 at 11:12 amAfter the Packers got blown out 35-14 by the Falcons last night, the Lambeau crowd let them hear it. Tucker Kraft said afterward that the boos were “pretty disappointing” and that it would be easier with 70,000 people behind them instead of opposing them.
I can honestly see both sides. If you’re paying good money to sit in the stadium, you’re allowed to be frustrated when your team plays that badly. But at the same time, I can understand a player feeling like his own home crowd turning on him doesn’t exactly help.
So where do you fall?
Are boos just part of being a professional athlete and paying customer, or should fans always have their team’s back regardless of how ugly the game gets?

I feel like if you dont want the boos do better cause as an athlete should know youre going to get booed especially if you are getting blown out to a team your fans expect you to beat.
-
Yeah I feel like complaining about the boos just draws a target on your back
-
If he hadnt had all the drops in the game I’d understand complaining about it but to be fair you play for arguably one of the proudest fan bases in all of sports
-
You aren’t wrong. That team has been a dumpster fire so far this season
-
Which is crazy to think about to be honest cause the Packers have been good for a while and either theyre getting bad or the rest of the league has learned how to defend them

I am okay with the boos. People put a lot of passion and money into supporting the team, so when they disappoint and play like that, expect those boos haha they are motivational boos!
-
Yeah it amazes me when commentators notice it and act shocked and try to be like well why are they booing? Like youre calling the game right? You know why lol
-
That is pretty funny when the commentators act like they don’t understand and act offended haha you know they’ve had some boos for their teams before haha
-
Like the Packer fans booing, they can def see that that team is garbage right?
-
-
lol and they are always like so scandalized by it lol
-
Yeah hearing their commentary after hearing the booing can be absolutely gold though!

Yeah as long as people aren’t hucking Bud Light bottles at that players the negativity is can really light a fire under someone’s butt lol

At the professional level, I’m totally fine with it. You’re getting paid money to play the game and to perform at a certain level. If you’re not getting there, you’re probably going to hear about it. We’d get the same at our jobs, right?
At the amateur level, I’ve seen it and I don’t think that’s the place. College is a bit of an odd thing now cause some of the kids get paid, but I still consider that to be amateur.
-
Yeah, I’m pretty much with you on that distinction. At the pro level, fans are paying to watch a product, and booing is part of the reaction when that product isn’t performing. Players are getting paid to perform, so criticism comes with the territory.
College is different to me too. Even with NIL changing the financial side of college sports, there’s still a different relationship between the athletes and the fans. I’d have a much harder time booing a college kid who is struggling than I would a professional who’s having a bad game.

I do not get the college level booing at all! It also frustrates me when you see the audience (mainly the sudent section) throwing stuff on the field cause a call doesnt go their way! Happens a lot more in basketball but still mindblowing!
-
Yeah, I’m with you on that. Booing is one thing, but throwing stuff onto the field because you didn’t like a call is a completely different level.
Especially in college, these are still kids playing in an incredibly emotional environment. You can be pissed about a bad call without making the game unsafe for the players and officials.
Basketball seems to be where it gets especially wild. The student sections can go from “passionate fans” to “somebody needs to take their beer away” pretty quickly. 😂
