Marvel Mint Is Here
Topps Mint Marvel drops today, and I’m really curious what everyone thinks about this one. The SDCC early release definitely got people’s attention, especially with the convention version featuring the three exclusive original-art cards from Ian McDonald featuring Spider-Man, Hulk, and Punisher. The full release expands into a 125-card base set with Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers, with the Platinum cards numbered to 99 or less. I’ve seen some of the cards coming out of the early boxes and there are some REALLY good-looking designs in this set. It feels like Topps is taking the high-end approach to Marvel rather than just making another standard character set. Are you buying Marvel Mint today, or are you sitting this one out? And if you are buying, who is the character you’re chasing? Spider-Man? Wolverine? Deadpool? Hulk? Someone a little more under the radar? I’m especially curious whether people think this has staying power as a serious Marvel card set or if the SDCC hype is doing most of the heavy lifting.
