Pre-Cleaning for Grading
Posted by roya1rips on May 1, 2026 at 1:44 pmHas anyone had any experience with cleaning cards before sending them to get graded?
I just cleaned some Kobe rookies of mine, and they look 10x better! Just making sure PSA isn’t going to void them.

I’m just about to choose cards for grading and am wondering what I need to do to clean them. What did you do for yours?

i just asked @thehobbi_Mike about this.. ive heard about people doing this but id be afraid of messing the card up and yeah if grading deems it altered and doesnt grade it

The most ive done is just wiped them with a micro fiber cloth before putting them in the sleeves to send them in

I’ve been doing it a good bit recently, just don’t have any of them back. But I wiped them down and used some wax. I also got pretty good at getting some corners to present better. I enjoy doing it and would love to start doing it for others but it’s hard to get people to ship you cards off the rip. 😂

ive aleays wondered about this as ive seen a couple card cleaning kits going around. and people talking about them and getting dimples and such out of cards and making them look better.

I haven’t cleaned any of the cards I’ve sent in. Honestly, I think that’s hurt some of the cards I’ve sent in and I intend to do so the next time I send some in. I’ve got a few I want to send in to TAG, but am waiting on them to open up the lower tiers first.
I may send a few in to Degree or Beckett before that and give it a try. At the very least, I think I’ll use a nice microfiber cloth to help clean them up a bit and get the surface looking nicer.

I’d also be weary of people cleaning my cards. I just take a clean new microfiber cloth and get rid of any fingerprints with a magnifying class, and shine a led light to check before submitting.
