    A lot of people think it was Topps… but it actually goes back even further.

    The first sports cards came from tobacco companies like <strong data-start=”247″ data-end=”288″>Allen & Ginter in the late 1800s—they used them as inserts in cigarette packs.

    👉 But the hobby as we know it today really started with <strong data-start=”411″ data-end=”452″>Topps in 1952.

    That’s when they dropped their iconic set with players like <strong data-start=”523″ data-end=”564″>Mickey Mantle, and it changed everything.

    <strong data-start=”599″ data-end=”628″>Simple way to look at it:

    <ul data-start=”629″ data-end=”710″>

  • Tobacco companies = where cards started
  • Topps = what made it a real hobby
  • <hr data-start=”712″ data-end=”715″>

    Kind of crazy how something that started as a cigarette promo turned into what we’re all into today.

    What’s the oldest card you’ve got in your collection? 👇
