It’s healthily rising in the Hobby. I love non sports especially Star Wars. With recent sales off the 77 Luke for several mill and a 23 Vader super just went for $43k. It’s growing fast. 26 Galaxy values are definitely proof of that

Yeah it’s hard to chase for sure. I’m just lucky that one of the big chases is from my team. If Sal was a Cub or something I probably wouldn’t pay him any mind

Haha, that’s exactly how Pokemon gets you. 😂 It starts with “I’ll grab one because I like the artwork,” and suddenly you’re looking at cards for Pokemon you didn’t even know existed. And I completely understand the Whatnot avoidance. Sometimes the most effective form of self-control is simply not putting yourself in the situation to begin with. Lol I’m the same way with certain parts of the hobby — I know myself well enough to know when “I’ll just look” is a dangerous sentence. The artwork really is what surprised me most with Pokemon, though. There are some cards that I’d want even if I knew absolutely nothing about the Pokemon just because the card itself looks incredible.

I like both ways. I barely considered Cincinnati style actually chili and that’s no disrespect to it it just is enjoyed more as a sauce than in a bowl with a spoon. I can’t go to a Reds or Bengals game without getting a Skyline Dog lol

I think I’ve almost got my a lot of the cards I’ve been wanting to hold. I still want to grab a low numbered JD rookie and Caleb Williams. Definitely want to get Bains rookie low numbered too

We like the classics too lol. My kiddo loves Pikachu and Mew, My wife loves Eevee. And I’m somewhere with Charizard, Blastoise and MewTwo

Yeah, I completely get that. The biggest thing is knowing which parts of the hobby you can enjoy without letting them take over.<div>I went through a phase of getting into too many breaks myself and eventually realized I’m happier being more surgical with what I collect. But that’s the beauty of the hobby — some people love chasing singles, some love ripping, some love breaks, and some love all of it.</div>

Haha, that’s honestly how it gets you. I told myself I wasn’t getting into Pokemon either, and then the kids start looking at cards, the wife gets interested, and suddenly we’re all hunting down our favorite characters. Honestly, I think that makes it even better. It’s one thing to collect something yourself, but having something the whole family can enjoy and chase together is pretty awesome.And now I’m curious… who are everybody’s favorite Pokemon? That could get expensive REAL quick. 🤣 🤣<

Yeah, I think that’s a really good point. Winning ROTY definitely gives a player more attention, but I don’t think the award itself automatically makes their cards explode. The player still has to prove they’re more than a one- or two-year hype cycle.

Michael Harris is a great example. He won ROTY and has put together a pretty solid career, but the hobby hasn’t treated him like a superstar-level card market.

That’s why I’m rooting for Sal for both reasons. 😂 I genuinely like the player, but I’m also sitting here thinking, “Please keep raking, buddy, I have a card invested in this storyline!” If he turns into a perennial All-Star, then the ROTY becomes a chapter in the story rather than the entire story.

And honestly, that’s probably the bigger lesson with rookie cards: buying the award is one thing, buying the career is another.
