I think people see outrageous prices in basketball and get surprised when it doesn’t translate to quite the same amount in Baseball and other sports. Basketball is unique in that it has a MASSIVE fan base in China, which as we all know has a huge population, so there is a level of demand that other sports don’t see globally in the card market. Soccer is of course global, and seems to be gaining some traction in the hobby, but there isn’t as much fervor around the card collecting hobby in a lot of the European countries as there is in the US, China, and even places like Australia for the NBA. Plus, Jordan might be the most iconic global sports figure in the past 50 years. I think over time, the hobby will start to grow a bigger fan base in Europe and sports like Soccer will start to be in higher demand.
Baseball is huge in the US and Japan, especially with the ascension of Ohtani, but until other countries start to really join in, I think it will always fall a bit short of the dollars we see go to things like the Jordan/Kobe Logoman/Auto.

Typically, I only use a clean microfiber cloth to carefully wipe dust and fingerprints. Some light buffing can remove some surface grime if any is present, but rarely (almost never) introduce any chemical to the process. I have used Kurt’s Card Care to smooth out any a surface wrinkle or 2. Currently have a Walter Payton rookie at PSA that i was able to remove a surface wrinkle from and am curious to see if it raises any flags.

I would suggest looking into some of the Top Loader Binders out there. They often hold 252+ top-loaded cards, zip closed for additional security and are very nice to flip through and show guests. They are usually nice enough that you could treat them like a coffee table book and leave them out as a cool conversation piece and a nice way to keep your grandfather’s passion and memories alive for many years to come

Personally, I have a list save don my phone of items I’m hoping to find. At the top of this year’s list is a 1953 Jackie Robinson in a psa/bvg/sgc 2-4 and a 1979 Gretzky O-PEE-CHEE Rookie in a 4-6

Nationals is only about a 90min drive, so plan on going with a couple friends on Thursday. Went on Thursday last year and it was packed. Definitely recommend going, even if you are on a tight budget. One of my buddies only has 100 bucks, but he’ll still have fun taking in the pinnacle of the hobby. So much cool stuff to see, and plenty of value bins to dig through.

Growing up I collected Frank Thomas cards with my Dad. We traded a lot of 90s MJs for Big hurt cards back in the day. Ouch!

Been using market movers. Using it track my collection, and the scanning is getting better as time goes by.

Went on Thursday last year, and it’s a lot. 1 day is doable, but it will be a long day and you likely won’t be able to absorb everything in 1 day. I’m doing the same thing again this year, but definitely going with some specific items in mind.
