I’m sure someone, somewhere has put together something that looks at the crossover, but if so, I’m not aware of it.

I think the NFL rookie cards will always be king as far as collectability goes, but there is still some room in the collection for cards of players for favorite college teams or the college cards of the players in the NFL.

I’ve been playing a bit of Magic online but haven’t really gotten into collecting it much. Will probably buy some of the Star Trek MTG when it comes out in November.
I’ve collected quite a bit of the Kickstarter for Neuroscape but haven’t had a chance to play that much and I’ve collected a ton of Wonders of the First and mostly just played online. There just aren’t that many players in my area for most games so it’s hard when it’s a more niche game.
The last time I went to a play tourney for Pokemon which you’d think would have a good turnout, there were only 4 of us there to play. There’s usually about the same amount of people at the LCS when they do a Magic night too.

I happened to be in Walmart on the same day that they had stocked the super boxes and I bought one. I didn’t hit anything worth writing home about. Was hoping for the Maxx Crosby funko mini but had to just go buy it on eBay instead. 😉 Got the Christian McCaffrey jumbo card and not sure what I’ll do with that. I’m not sure I’ll be able to find a way to ship it safely if I were to sell it.

I’m not complaining about the Raiders being 3-0, but it would be sort of nice if they’d just win one in a dominant fashion rather than making it a close one every week.

At the professional level, I’m totally fine with it. You’re getting paid money to play the game and to perform at a certain level. If you’re not getting there, you’re probably going to hear about it. We’d get the same at our jobs, right?
At the amateur level, I’ve seen it and I don’t think that’s the place. College is a bit of an odd thing now cause some of the kids get paid, but I still consider that to be amateur.

I’ve bought into the last three sets of BoBA with mixed results. I did OK in the Griffey set, but mostly because I only really opened one double mega and just held the hobby boxes for a while then sold on the market. I did the opposite with Tecmo and did a Whatnot break for the Hobby and have held onto the double megas so far. I was a bit short on the hobby, and may just sell the sealed double megas to try and get some money out of them. They don’t seem to be doing much on breaks.
I’ve got a hobby of Mahomes coming as well, so we’ll see what I decide to do with that. Of them all, it seems the dropoff after release is the sharpest with this. Pricing is good in the first few months, then drops like a rock.

Of the two, I really like the Yanma art. It’s almost realistic and it’s a relatively affordable card with some cool art.

Yeah, for sure. My friend is the Pokemon Professor for the one shop which is what got me into playing Pokemon. He needed an extra player for a tournament so I went and got whooped. I at least went 2-1 in the last tourney I played in.
Trying to support the local shops as much as possible so they stick around.

Up until about a year ago, we only had one shop in town. Then another started but is mostly sports cards (not complaining) and has moved like 4 times trying to find a place affordable enough. I think it’s in a good spot now. We just had another shop that mostly focuses on TCG open up during the summer, so hoping the market grows from there some. Up until 6 months ago, none of them had space to even host play, and now there are two that do, so should continue to grow.

One of the things I like about it is that it’s at a price point that makes it super rippable without “needing” a hit to pay for it. Brings back a bit of that junk wax era nostalgia when you don’t have to spend 600 to rip some packs.

Exactly. There’s custom Spindown D20 dice with a fraking Enterprise in them… I haven’t figured out how I’m not going to spend money on that set just because I’m a huge Trekkie. It might get bad…

For sure. I was just telling my son today that I hope that doesn’t turn into a Sam Darnold in Minnesota sort of situation where he’s supposed to just play a year or two to get the rookie up to speed, then leaves and the rookie isn’t any good.
I don’t think that will happen with Mendoza, but nobody thought it would happen with McCarthy either and now he’s only worth a 5th rounder to the Giants…
